In November, we travelled to Kampala, Uganda for the conference Supporting the 2015 Paris Climate Conference: Climate change and opportunities for sustainable business in East Africa. We gave a key note presentation entitled “Climate Change and Sustainable Business Model Innovation”.
The conference was a collaboration between the Royal Embassy of Norway in Uganda, the University of Bergen and Makerere University, and was part of the preparations by the Ugandan government and East African business organizations prior to the COP21 in Paris. The conference was attended by decision makers from business, government and NGOs in the East African region.
Other presenters included the Ugandan Minister for Climate and the Environment, Dr. Ephraim Kamuntu; the Norwegian Ambassador in Uganda, Susan Eckey; Rector Dag Rune Olsen from the University of Bergen; Vice-Chancellor Ddumba Ssentamu from Makerere University; Professor Tore Furevik and researcher Ellen Viste from the Bjerknes Centre for Climate Research at the University of Bergen; Professor Samuel Kyamanywa from Makerere University, as well as several panelists both from Norway and East Africa. Here is the full programme, and here is an article about the event by the Mak Bulletin.
The conference was a fruitful collaboration between representatives from the two countries, and the experience of visiting Uganda was breathtaking. Thank you to all our friends in Kampala for an excellent event!
